Lives and works in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Engel Leonardo investigates the relationships between humans and history, architecture, and culture. His production is usually based on research on tropical modern architecture, histories that
have been repressed by modernity, and the transmission of Indigenous and African knowledge through objects that are generally seen as artisanal, folkloric, or ethnographic.
His works are part of collections at the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris), the Kadist Foundation (Paris and San Francisco), and the Museo de Arte Moderno (Santo Domingo). Recently, he presented solo exhibitions at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói and the Kunsthalle Lissabon (Lisbon).
