Elvira Espejo Ayca is a weaver, a narrator in the oral traditions of her native land, a documentarian, and a poet. She graduated from Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore in La Paz. She is a lecturer in Aymara and Quechua, Elvira has published several books, including the book of poems Phaqar Kirki-T’ikha Takiy Takiy – Canto a las Flores (2006), for which she received the international poet award in the fourth Venezuela World Poetry Festival in 2007.
In collaboration with the Bolivian musician Alvaro Montenegro, she produced the contemporary music DVDs Thakhi – La Senda Canciones a los animales (2007) and Utachk Kirki – Canto a las Casas (2011). She received the first Eduardo Avaroa award in Art, Native Textile Specialty, La Paz (2013), and the first award for the Promotion of Native Creation in Literature, Poetry Specialty, in the context of the V Festival de Arte Sur Andino Arica Barroca Chile (2018).
