Lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa
Sabelo Mlangeni is a graduate of the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. His photographs concentrate on capturing everyday intimate moments in queer communities in contemporary South Africa. Highlighting scenes of exuberance and glamour alongside those of strife and grit, his black and white images portray the community from within and deliberately valorize the perspectives of
the individuals who identity with this group.
Interestingly, even as he becomes involved with topics that matter to groups to which he does not belong, Mlangeni maintains this focused engagement, rendering an intimate picture of the complex cultural identities found in contemporary South African society.
