Nohemí Pérez presents a multidisciplinary work, which revolves around the relationship that men establish with nature and the conflicts, tensions, and geneses that arise from this constant friction.
Based on notions of architecture, cinema, and sociology, the artist proposes a re-reading of the Catatumbo territory, a geographic region with a very particular natural and sociocultural ecosystem. From the conquest to present day, Catatumbo is the stage for multiple conflicts that have been transformed to compose a complex web of anachronistic situations, a characteristic of contemporary Latin America.

In her work, Nohemí uses mainly charcoal as a reference to mining. With this, she intends to make visible the exploitation of natural resources, and, at the same time, the violence that it unleashes. Based on the territory of her memory and affections, Nohemí reconstructs the history of her origins, gathering the voices of those who live or have lived in Catatumbo, with strong emotional ties and their own personal experiences. A particular interest in Nohemí’s work is about tracing new symbolic and geographic maps that correspond to various realities in Catatumbo, to allow scenes of reconstruction and peace to appear in her work.
